Taking Wing: Poems from the Oregon Outback to the Hudson Valley
Published in Paperback by A Wyatt Book for Golden Notebook Press (July, 2002)
Average review score:

A MUST READ BOOK OF POETRY!Ms. King has the ability to make me feel every emotion I have ever had. While reading this small but powerful book of poetry, you will feel as though you have met and known each and every character as she does. If you have ever visited or lived in the Pacific Northwest or the Hudson Valley (or for that fact, anywhere inbetween), you will enjoy these poems again and again. Let's hope she has another book 'in the wings'.

Terrible Trail: The Meek Cutoff, 1845
Published in Paperback by Maverick Pubns (April, 1993)
Average review score:

Outstanding, authoritative account of early Oregon historyThis project is by far the best accounting of the ill-fated 1845 Stephen Meek led wagon train I have ever read. The authors have done an exceptional job in piecing together the tragic events and human errors that contibuted to making this one of the most moving stories from the Manifest Destiny era. The genealogical references alone make this document a must for every family researcher.

That Balance So Rare: The Story of Oregon
Published in Paperback by Oregon Historical Society (July, 2000)
Average review score:

Excellent Summary of Oregon History"That Balance So Rare" is a perfect introduction to the history of Oregon. It can be used as a good general reference for scholars who need a starting point to further their knowledge of this State and region, even though it is accessible to all, and to readers of all ages. The well-written, informative and often humorous text is accompanied by dozens of lovely photographs and illustrations which really evoke Oregon's colorful past. O'Donnell focuses on the nineteenth and early twentieth century, as he correctly sees this period as the time when the political, economic and social features of modern Oregon were essentially defined. Also commendable is his treatment of the local Native Americans, who were pushed from their "garden of Eden" by successive waves of white settlement. Recommended reading for Oregon natives and anyone interested in learning more about this beautiful Pacific Northwest state.

A bright, fresh look at OregonFinally a travel/guide book that reveals the secrets and true beauty of Oregon! Gordon Coffin has done an excellent job of covering the entire state. The "Special Interest Tours" are well planned and have something for everyone. As a "local", the book is a great reference for our many visitors. We use the "Calendar of Events" section to schedule out-of-town guest's visits to coincide with fun events such as Portland's Waterfront Blues Festival. The writing is colorful, descriptions are enticing. This book makes planning and organizing a trip in Oregon so easy. Gordon Coffin stayed away from the overvisited tourist attractions and shared his private collection of Oregon gems. This is a book for anyone planning a trip to Oregon and a must for all Oregonians.

Wagon Wheels: A Contemporary Journey on the Oregon Trail
Published in Paperback by High Plains Pr (June, 1996)
Average review score:

An exciting account of a modern day wagon train journeyCandy Moulton and Ben Kern have captured the reality of the west through the experiences of their 1993 expedition by wagon train from Independence, Missouri to Independence, Oregon. Through excerpts from Ben's daily journal and diaries of their historic predecessors you will feel the essence of every phase of this spectacular undertaking. The tasteful blend of history and the modern day adventure fill the gap from past to present. The authors have you hearing the creak of the wagon, the rumble of iron tires on hard-packed earth, and the jingle of trace-chains. You can almost feel the rolling lilt of the wooden seat beneath you, and smell the approaching rain overwhelming the everpresent scent of the sagebrush and dust. If you want to feel like you are really there on the trail, this is the book for you. You soon will be anticipating the view or the adventure that waits around the next bend or on the next page. This is one of those books that is hard to put down. --- Jefferson Glass, Local Historian

Streetwise Portland
Published in Map by Streetwise Maps (June, 2002)
Average review score:

Don't buy for house hunting!!! Its missing streets. This map is missing many many streets both in the index and the actual map. I agree its OK for walking around the metro area,
but if you're doing some serious 'locating' such as house or
apartment hunting then get the Rand McNally Portland EasyFinder.
It, too, is lamenated ISBN 0-528-99102-7

Getting around "The City of Roses"STREETWISE PORTLAND is an excellent map for a walk through Portland, or a concise overview of the city. It is laminated, which is very handy considering that Portland is one of the wettest cities in the country.
I would recommend looking elsewhere for a road map to plan car trips in the metro Portland area. But STREETWISE PORTLAND is excellent for gaining insight into Portland's layout.
